What Happens in Vegas.....

For my 60th, and after my mega surprise party, I took the daughters to Las Vegas in my braaaaand neeeeeew MDX. We stayed at the Palms but it wasn't quite as nice as we thought it would be. We did, however, dine in "Nine" and had some fine food. Saturday night we all went to see Bette Midler at Caesars Palace. Since we're always looking for celebs, maybe that's me that looks for celebs, one of my sharper-eye daughters spotted Penn or was is Teller? Not sure but we lined up for a photo with him. After Erin had her pose, she asked me what I said to him because he called me a "Cougar". I just said he was lookin pretty good for "Dancing With the Stars" and that we would vote for him. Apparently, we were the only ones who voted because he didn't stay around for long. The shy daughter, won't say who (Monica), wanted to see the Pussy Cat Dolls. That was quite an experience. I finally waited outside while the youngins boogied inside. My favorite part was seeing how many hotels we could valet park in so we could step in and out of the new wheels. I'm sure we hit 5 or 6. We stopped at the Wynn, ran inside, took a group photo and were back in the car before they could park it. All in all, it was a weekend to remember.

Legends of Aviation

LIVING LEGENDS OF AVIATION

Wahoo! We've made it to the big time! 15 minutes of fame! Call it what you want but what an exciting evening at the Beverly Hilton in January 09. Dick bought tickets to this charitable event so I could scope out the celebs. They told us we didn't have to walk the red carpet if we didn't want to. What? of course we're walking. Just before we stepped onto the carpet, a man came up and told Dick he was being inducted. They placed a medal around his neck, introduced him to the press and I proceeded to "work it" while the cameras flashed. This gave us entry into the social where the celebs hang out. I met Morgan Freeman, saw Harrison Ford with Calista Flockhart (I didn't dare ask for a photo), Dick had his picture taken with Buzz Aldrin (astronaut) and we sat with Dick Rutan (the guy who flew nonstop around the world in the 80s). We're still not sure why Dick was inducted. We think they got him mixed up with someone else. Oh well, we'll know when we don't get invited back next year.

One More

I hadn't known Michael long but knew him well enough to know that he was a buckin' bronc rider and a pretty good one at that. Assuming he was also a good horseman, I invited him to go horseback riding with me. We took the horses, I let him ride mine, from the stall and off we went. As we were turning around to head back to the barn, I thought I'd better warn him that my horse, Red, liked to run back to the barn on a dead run. I really wasn't worried - after all, he was cowboy wasn't he? Too late - Red took off like a rocket and Mike held on for dear life, losing his hat on the way. He ducked just in time to miss the top of the barn and Red screeched to a stop at his stall. I found out later that he rode broncs but he didn't know how to ride a normal horse. He told me he had taken up bronc riding to get over his fear of horses. Yep, he asked me out again.

Back in the Day

When Mike and I met at the Golden Spike Arena in Ogden and being the shy girl that I was, I mentioned my birthday was coming up in a couple of weeks. When my birthday arrived he showed up with a beautifully wrapped gift. I thought, gol, what's with this guy? He just met me and he's giving me gifts already? I unwrapped the present and it said "Road Apple Candy" on the lid - oh brother, how mushy. When I opened the box, I screamed. Without going into too much detail, there were individually wrapped "horse droppings". Hence the name Road Apples and the beginning of a fun romance. You asked for it!
